Risks:
Most patients are pleased with their lasik surgery procedure. However, like any surgery, there are risks. Doctors report that only 1% of patients have severe complications after surgery.
Loss of Vision - Some people lose vision with their eyes that may not be corrected with surgery, glasses, or contacts.
Development of debilitating visual symptoms - Patients can develop glares, halos, and double vision that can effect night time vision.
Under/over treatment - Only some patients achieve 20/20 vision without glasses or contacts. Therefore, after surgery you may still need glasses, contacts, or even another surgery.
Development of severe dry eye syndrome - After surgery, some patients may not be able to develop tears that keep the eye moist and comfortable. Not being able to produce tears can result in bad vision.
Results are generally not as good in patients with very large refractive errors of any type. For some farsighted patients, results may diminish with age.
